MTNL Shares Surge 18.4% on Asset Monetization Gains
Mumbai, March 13: Shares of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) skyrocketed 18.4% in early trade on the BSE, reaching a day’s high of ₹51.30 on Thursday. The surge came after the company’s earnings of ₹2,134.61 crore from land and building asset monetization were disclosed in Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar.
Government Reports ₹12,984.86 Crore in Asset Monetization Revenue
On Wednesday, the Parliament revealed that state-run telecom giants BSNL and MTNL had collectively earned ₹12,984.86 crore since 2019 through the monetization of land, buildings, towers, and fiber assets.
According to official data:
• MTNL earned ₹2,134.61 crore from land and building monetization.
• BSNL generated ₹2,387.82 crore from asset sales.
• A previous Economic Times report indicated that BSNL had earned ₹8,204.18 crore, while MTNL made ₹258.25 crore from the monetization of towers and fiber until January 2025.
Government’s Policy on Asset Monetization
Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar emphasized that the monetization of assets is being carried out under the government’s approved policy and that its impact on public sector undertakings (PSUs) is being closely monitored.
