BluJ Aero, ANERT, BPCL, and CIAL Join Forces to Pioneer Hydrogen-Powered Aviation
In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable air travel, BluJ Aero, ANERT (Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology), BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited), and CIAL (Cochin International Airport Limited) have signed a Quadripartite Agreement at the Global Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Summit in Kochi, Kerala. Supported by the Government of Kerala, this historic collaboration aims to develop the world’s first hydrogen fuel-based aviation ecosystem, propelling India to the forefront of green aviation.
Hydrogen-Powered Aviation Takes Flight
This landmark agreement sets the stage for integrating hydrogen fuel technology into the aviation sector, addressing the urgent need for zero-emission flights. The four partners have outlined key initiatives that will shape the future of clean and sustainable air travel:
1. Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft Development
BluJ Aero will lead the design and manufacturing of next-generation hydrogen-fueled VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft. The company is set to commence field trials of its Gen 2 Hydrogen Aircraft next month, marking a significant step in the transition towards carbon-free aviation.
2. Hydrogen Refueling Infrastructure
BPCL will establish hydrogen refueling stations at strategic locations across India. This infrastructure will support not only hydrogen-powered VTOL aircraft but also other hydrogen-based mobility solutions, reinforcing the country’s shift towards clean energy-driven transportation.
3. Airspace Integration and Testing Facilities
CIAL will provide dedicated airspace and aviation infrastructure to facilitate trials and integration of hydrogen-fueled aircraft. As India’s pioneering solar-powered airport, CIAL is well-positioned to lead this transition, setting a benchmark for renewable energy-powered aviation hubs.
4. Renewable Energy and Policy Support
ANERT will play a crucial role in developing policies, regulatory frameworks, and incentives to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered aviation. By aligning with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, ANERT will help ensure smooth policy implementation and industry-wide adoption.
